Odisha government plans to develop the waterway project by 2017

Odisha government, Paradip port trust (PPT) and Dharma Port company (DPCL) has signed an agreement on 30th June 2014, with Inland waterways Authority of India (IWAI) for developing his port, the proposed national waterway -5 in Odishaconnecting Talcher to Paradip Port, by June 2017. The construction work of the 332 Km inland waterways will be developed in two phases.

The total cost estimated for the work of Phase –I approximately to Rs 200 crore. The development work of the Phase -I includes a stretch of 201 km between Jokadia / Pankapal (Kalinanagar) to Dhamra and Paradip Port, while Phase-II is proposed to include a stretch of 131 km connecting Talcher to Jokadia / Pankapal. The Odisha government will provide the land free of cost and all the potential assistance to speed up the project.The Centre will also provide IWAI land free of cost for construction of terminal facilities, navigational locks, widening of narrow canals, suitable area for dumping of dredged spoil / material and other assistance for the project.
