The New south wales government of Australia has awarded the Northwest Rapid Transit consortium the contract to operate and deliver the operations, trains and systems (OTS) contract for the A$8. 3bn (£4.6bn) North West Rail Link, comprising the consortium, MTR Corporation, John Holland, Leighton Contractors, UGL Rail Services and Plenary Group.
The construction work involves the creation of eight new railway stations, construction and operation of the stabling and maintenance facility on Tallawong Road and the delivery of 4,000 commuter car parking spaces, installing tracks, signalling, mechanical and electrical systems on the link, as well as supply fully automated rapid transit trains. The contract will also see the upgrade and conversion of the railway line between Epping to Chatswood to rapid transit status.
