€1.7 billion contract to set up two concentrated solar power (CSP) plants totaling 300MW in south central, Morocco, has been bagged by Riyadh-based Acwa Power and its Spanish partner Sener. The lowest bid was submitted to Masen – Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy.
Both the plants are a part of the Noor CSP complex in Ouarzazate. The Noor II and Noor III with 200MW and 100MW capacity respectively.
The other companies competing in the bid process were Masdar, Abudhabi and Abengoa, Spain.
Acwa’s South African Bokpoort CSP project, with supply capacity of 50MW will be ready in 2015.
Acwa had also bid for the 100MW- Phase 2 of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai. This photovoltaic (PV) project bid was lower than than the bids submitted by Spanish companies, ‘Fotowatio’ and ‘Masdar’.
Acwa bid for the entire 1,000MW production at a tariff of 5.4 cents for the power purchase agreement period of 25-years would prove to be the lowest tariff quoted for a solar PV project ever.
